When do you apply for an Alaska drawing hunt?
ADF&G takes drawing applications online from November 1 to December 15 and announces results on the third Friday of February. Each application carries a fee, and a hunter must hold an Alaska hunting license or have applied for one first, except residents 17 and younger, by the 2026-2027 supplement. There are no points: each application is one chance, and a hunter may send up to six per species.
Do nonresidents need a guide in Alaska?
For three species, yes. ADF&G's 2026-2027 drawing supplement: "Nonresidents who are citizens of the United States are required to be personally accompanied in the field by an Alaska-licensed guide OR an Alaska resident relative 19 years of age or older within the second-degree of kindred when hunting brown/grizzly bear, Dall sheep, or mountain goat." Nonresidents who are not U.S. citizens need a licensed guide for those and for every other big game species, by ADF&G's guide requirements. Moose, caribou, black bear, bison, muskox, elk and deer need no guide for a nonresident U.S. citizen.

356,147 applications across the 356 hunts in ADF&G's results of the 2025 drawing. ADF&G's 2026-2027 supplement says about 364,911 applications came in, 1.6% of them rejected.
Which Alaska draw hunt gets the most applications?
