Colorado small game, upland birds and waterfowl ยท 2026-27 seasons
Where to walk for your bird, in your unit, on public land
Tell us the species, the unit and the day. You get the best patches of the right habitat for that time of year, each with a legal place to park and the walk from the truck, plus the season dates, bag limits and the rules that apply there. It loads into the map app you already use.
What is in a plan
- Covers to walk: the patches of habitat that fit the species and the date, best first, with coordinates.
- Legal parking for each one, and the distance on foot.
- How to hunt it at that time of year, from published research.
- The rules for your day: season dates, daily bag and possession limits, licences and stamps, and legal methods, from the current Colorado Parks and Wildlife brochure.
- Look-alikes: the protected or out-of-season species you could mistake for yours, and how to tell them apart.
- KML and GPX files for your map app.
Every place in a plan is on National Forest, BLM or Colorado Parks and Wildlife land that public records show is open. Private land, including Walk-In Access parcels, is not included. A plan is a planning aid built from public data: it shows habitat, not birds, and you verify land status and rules before you hunt.

A species is planned only inside its open season and only in units where its season applies. Some waterfowl and crane seasons are not mapped to units yet, so we may tell you we cannot build your day. Wild turkey is not offered yet. Species with no open season in Colorado, such as Gunnison sage-grouse and lesser prairie-chicken, are never planned.
Ask for a plan
Choose your species on the form, give the unit number and the day you will hunt, and the free check tells you at once whether it is in season there.
