What is Naylor WMA like?

This WMA is located along the valley of the South Branch of the Middle Fork of the Zumbro River provides a variety of wildlife habitats. Upland and lowland brush are the most abundant habitats interspersed with wetlands, woods and grasslands. This Aquatic Management Area compliments the adjacent Naylor WMA by protecting additional river corridor along the South Branch of the Middle Fork of the Zumbro River. Part of the area is an abandoned sand and gravel quarry creating a small lake.

Management objectives are to maintain a mix of habitats using a variety of means including prescribed fires, farming, and timber management. This area is one of the first WMAs acquired via the RIM Critical Habitat Match Program with Pheasants Forever. Unfortunately this area receives significant unauthorized use including motor vehicle trespass and littering. Please show respect for the area and follow public use rules. The wide-variety of habitats result in good wild viewing opportunities. A variety of waterfowl use the river and beaver ponds. Hunting opportunities are best for pheasants, cottontail rabbits, deer, raccoon and waterfowl. The pond offers angling for panfish. The area offers good wildlife viewing opportunities. Watch for beaver, muskrat and mink along the river. The Naylor WMA bounds the west side of this unit.
