What should a hunting map app have?

A hunting map app should show public and private land with owner names, hunting units, maps that work with no signal, shooting light, wind and tracks; of the 21 features in this checklist the free FilledTag app has 14 in full, 4 in part and lacks 3, and its property lines with owner names cover 14 states so far (app state list, 21 October 2026).

Data updated October 23, 2026, from the app's feature list and state list of 21 and 22 October 2026.

The checklist

Use it on any app you are thinking about. The last two columns are FilledTag's own answer, including what it does not do.

Which features matter most?

Land ownership, owner names and maps that work with no signal. Every other feature helps you hunt better; those three keep you legal when you have no way to look anything up. Before you trust any app with them, put the phone in airplane mode at home and open the ground you mean to hunt.

How sure can you be of the land lines?

Property lines on every hunting map come from county records, which vary from county to county and can be months behind a sale. We checked 30 random points against the agency records and published the result, misses included, on how accurate FilledTag is.
