Unit 27 covers about 197 square miles in Grand and Routt counties.

In 2024, an estimated 1,523 elk hunters hunted Game Management Unit 27 across all seasons and took 113 elk, a success rate of 7%. The statewide rate that year was 20%.

That is 56 fewer hunters than 2023, when success was 10%.

2nd rifle was the busiest rifle season, with 484 hunters, about 246 for every 100 square miles of the unit.

4th rifle had the highest rifle success at 12%.
