Unit 65 covers about 672 square miles in Gunnison, Hinsdale, Montrose and Ouray counties.
In 2024, an estimated 717 deer hunters hunted Game Management Unit 65 across all seasons and took 270 deer, a success rate of 38%. The statewide rate that year was 43%.
That is 27 more hunters than 2023, when success was 45%.
2nd rifle was the busiest rifle season, with 278 hunters, about 41 for every 100 square miles of the unit.
3rd rifle had the highest rifle success at 52%.
Among the 138 units with at least 100 rifle deer hunters, unit 65 ranked 90 for rifle success and 81 for fewest rifle hunters per square mile.
