Unit 421 covers about 541 square miles in Mesa and Garfield counties.

In 2024, an estimated 3,432 elk hunters hunted Game Management Unit 421 across all seasons and took 657 elk, a success rate of 19%. The statewide rate that year was 20%.

That is 267 more hunters than 2023, when success was 17%.

2nd rifle was the busiest rifle season, with 886 hunters, about 164 for every 100 square miles of the unit.

4th rifle had the highest rifle success at 27%.
