Unit 501 covers about 501 square miles in Park and Jefferson counties.

In 2024, an estimated 378 elk hunters hunted Game Management Unit 501 across all seasons and took 125 elk, a success rate of 33%. The statewide rate that year was 20%.

That is 22 more hunters than 2023, when success was 29%.

2nd rifle was the busiest rifle season, with 93 hunters, about 19 for every 100 square miles of the unit.

4th rifle had the highest rifle success at 43%.
