Unit 84 covers about 1,280 square miles in Custer, Fremont, Huerfano and Pueblo counties.

In 2024, an estimated 722 elk hunters hunted Game Management Unit 84 across all seasons and took 272 elk, a success rate of 38%. The statewide rate that year was 20%.

That is 55 more hunters than 2023, when success was 44%.

2nd rifle was the busiest rifle season, with 96 hunters, about 8 for every 100 square miles of the unit.

1st rifle had the highest rifle success at 48%.
