Unit 85 covers about 1,174 square miles in Huerfano and Las Animas counties.
In 2024, an estimated 763 deer hunters hunted Game Management Unit 85 across all seasons and took 351 deer, a success rate of 46%. The statewide rate that year was 43%.
That is 70 fewer hunters than 2023, when success was 53%.
2nd rifle was the busiest rifle season, with 319 hunters, about 27 for every 100 square miles of the unit.
