Colorado GMU 22 elk hunting: 2024 harvest and hunter numbers

Unit 22 covers about 989 square miles in Rio Blanco and Garfield counties.

In 2024, an estimated 2,668 elk hunters hunted Game Management Unit 22 across all seasons and took 770 elk, a success rate of 29%. The statewide rate that year was 20%.

That is 93 fewer hunters than 2023, when success was 18%.

2nd rifle was the busiest rifle season, with 716 hunters, about 72 for every 100 square miles of the unit.

4th rifle had the highest rifle success at 40%.

Among the 130 units with at least 100 rifle elk hunters, unit 22 ranked 33 for rifle success and 68 for fewest rifle hunters per square mile.
