Unit 55 covers about 886 square miles in Gunnison County.

In 2024, an estimated 2,755 elk hunters hunted Game Management Unit 55 across all seasons and took 397 elk, a success rate of 14%. The statewide rate that year was 20%.

That is 15 fewer hunters than 2023, when success was 13%.
