Unit 74 covers about 595 square miles in La Plata County and San Juan County counties.
In 2024, an estimated 1,537 elk hunters hunted Game Management Unit 74 across all seasons and took 329 elk, a success rate of 21%. The statewide rate that year was 20%.
That is 98 fewer hunters than 2023, when success was 17%.
2nd rifle was the busiest rifle season, with 370 hunters, about 62 for every 100 square miles of the unit.
1st rifle had the highest rifle success at 29%.
