Unit 82 covers about 1,088 square miles in Alamosa and Saguache counties.

In 2024, an estimated 2,297 elk hunters hunted Game Management Unit 82 across all seasons and took 521 elk, a success rate of 23%. The statewide rate that year was 20%.

That is 291 fewer hunters than 2023, when success was 22%.

2nd rifle was the busiest rifle season, with 526 hunters, about 48 for every 100 square miles of the unit.

4th rifle had the highest rifle success at 31%.
