Unit 38 covers about 456 square miles in Gilpin, Boulder, Clear Creek and Jefferson counties.

In 2024, an estimated 1,096 elk hunters hunted Game Management Unit 38 across all seasons and took 88 elk, a success rate of 8%. The statewide rate that year was 20%.

That is 58 more hunters than 2023, when success was 10%.

2nd rifle was the busiest rifle season, with 195 hunters, about 43 for every 100 square miles of the unit.

3rd rifle had the highest rifle success at 9%.
