Unit 48 covers about 300 square miles in Lake and Chaffee counties.
In 2024, an estimated 339 elk hunters hunted Game Management Unit 48 across all seasons and took 93 elk, a success rate of 27%. The statewide rate that year was 20%.
That is the same number of hunters as 2023, when success was 29%.
2nd rifle was the busiest rifle season, with 62 hunters, about 21 for every 100 square miles of the unit.
1st rifle had the highest rifle success at 56%.
